The city that never sleeps
Goodbye China. China Hello !!!
We are in Hong Kong. Ptite Cultural minute. Hong Kong is not only a city, it is also a territory made up of 200 small islands and a mainland with a history a little bit special. On 1 July 1997, the British authorities recédaient Hong Kong to China; the 99-year lease, signed in 1898 by the two countries, is complete. Following the arrival of the communists to power in 1949 in China, Hong Kong has seen many Chinese refugees arrive. And in the 60s, the Hong Kong economy has been booming. Today, Hong Kong is no longer a British colony; but before the handover in 1997 Britain had negotiated with Beijing a special regime for Hong Kong: "one country, two systems." One country, two systems and China, Communist for most Chinese, capitalist and democratic Hong Kong. That is why Hong Kong is a special administrative region with its own currency (dollar HK). However, Hong Kong is not free. Foreign policy and homeland defense are decided by Beijing. Its autonomy is guaranteed until 2047. Welcome to AsiDisney! With all these lights, these posters, these skyscrapers everywhere, it's like Disneyland (notice they are people one on one of Hong Kong Island). Every night at 20 pm on the dot has the greatest place sound and light of the world (no less!): The skyscrapers of Hong Kong Island light up alternately, all in music! A very special atmosphere prevails here, even strange. Very rich people with big cars of all kinds (like: really rich) roam in places Monegasque atmospheres. Alongside of this beyond: skyscrapers to the poor. Huge dilapidated buildings (we still wonder how it can hold!) With laundry hanging from the windows. The territory of Hong Kong has the highest population density in the world (54 times that of France). So we went from the lowest density in Mongolia (less than 1 / km2) to the highest (more than 11 000 inhabitants / km2 in some neighborhoods). But here there is a paradox: 80% of the islands that make up Hong Kong are mostly covered in forest .... and yet, here we piled! creepy night. Fortunately, y will be only: our naked stopover during 2 days. Our guest house is perched in an old dilapidated skyscrapers in the city center of Kowloon Peninsula. Our room is the size of a bed Noise and cooking odors and fat galore. Here we meet there very many African and Indian ... A surreal atmosphere at the foot of the towers in those businesses who plan we turn from Delhi to Dakar .... not from Monaco.
